LIS724 Blog Assignment July 13, 2008

I created my blog for a LIS class: Internet Fundamentals & Design.  (I created one for my reference class, too, but I don’t know what happened to it). :)    I chose this design because it was “fun,” and I liked the organization of the aesthetics and additional information.  About two months ago, I created another blog about my family/baby.  Initially, I was going to try blogger.com (because my friend uses that site), but I found myself frustrated with uploading pictures and videos, so I went back to WordPress because I liked the media manipulation tools a little better and I’m more familiar with the site.  (I use a different background template for my personal blog–one that is a little cleaner)

I find the creation and maintenance of blogs very easy and fun!  I update my family blog often, and knowing that my family and friends read/see my entries keeps things interesting. I really want to create one for my classes this school year, so we can discuss our readings/topics differently every once in awhile.

After I created my LIS blog, I started reading lots of educational and library/information science blogs.  I love them!  Some of my favorite include TametheWeb, Stephen’s Lighthouse, The Shifted Librarian, Library Stuff, YPulse (there’s another one for Ybooks), and the Information Literacy Land of Confusion Blog. I was not familiar with Adventures in Educational Blogging, but I just checked it out, and I gotta say it’s pretty cool and definitely useful for anyone in education.  (No activity since June 30th, so she might be on summer vacation.) I love the amount of technological tools she uses, links to, and reviews.  Her site serves as a great introduction to many Web 2.0 tools that I was not aware of.  I’m going to subscribe to this site!  (I use Netvibes as my RSS aggregator.)

Thanks for visiting my website. I’m glad you found it useful. I am on summer vacation and I’ve been to NECC and now Boston for Powerschool Training. In a week I head back to Singapore so hopefully I can blog more regularly again when I’m back to having regular internet access.

I can see where having a blog for personal info would be a great way to stay in touch with family and friends. Also, having students use one would probably be an interesting way to interact with them and with each other.

Isn’t it amazing that Susan Sedro commented on your blog? Of course, that led me to her blog again and I found her link to searching kid safe images http://www.compfight.com/

Could spend way too much time going from one blog link to another….
